I am c...Thanks for leaving your questions, dudes!

I am crocheting the dreads. There is a technique to what I'm doing, but everyone of course has their own. I prefer to work more on the surface of the lock, as opposed to repeatedly poking through - I find it less damaging, and less painful to my clients. There are certainly people who have started their dreadlocks using this technique at home, but I'd caution anyone who wants to try to GO SLOWLY! I'm a pro, and I do this every day - that speed was hard won. (I've got the battle scars to prove it.)

PS - A crochet hook is NOT a substitute for palmrolling! Dreads will not felt if they aren't allowed to move around and relax. Hooks are awesome to start and repair dreads, but palmrolling is the best tool in your arsenal for keeping them in shape.scissor ninja *kris*https://www.blogger.com/profile/14095878563418544273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-69800480377264570432011-05-06T00:50:57.841-07:002011-05-06T00:50:57.841-07:00is there a technique to using the crochet hook or ...is there a technique to using the crochet hook or is it just in-out and twist the hair? you go so fast it's hard to tell!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-67796345443444359682011-05-06T00:29:40.501-07:002011-05-06T00:29:40.501-07:00What do the human hair extensions start at>?What do the human hair extensions start at>?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-33341814709934311472011-05-05T21:55:36.290-07:002011-05-05T21:55:36.290-07:00are you crocheting them? would this be a good way ...are you crocheting them? would this be a good way to start dreads at home or is the backcomb palm roll method the best?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-78133711642219462052011-04-30T13:33:43.965-07:002011-04-30T13:33:43.965-07:00He really does rock! I'm not totally picturing what your stylist is doing - but if you're happy with it, that's what matters! If you'd like to try it without thread, just ask your stylist to give it a go. If you're unhappy with the results, it's pretty simple to tie in later. Good luck, and keep me posted!scissor ninja *kris*https://www.blogger.com/profile/14095878563418544273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-50343468317254086922011-03-23T10:01:49.699-07:002011-03-23T10:01:49.699-07:00Wow... How's your...Well Anonymous, that kinda depends. How's your stylist tightening them? If it's the same technique I use (tiny crochet hook weaving) it's as simple as just not tying the thread. I've been doing this long enough that I know my weaving will hold up on it's own - the thread is really just for the benefit of someone who doesn't know how to care for their locks yet or doesn't have a ton of time for root maintenance. I'm not sure what method your stylist is using, but if you were my client and methodical in your root rubbing and palmrolling, I'd be comfortable not using thread around the one year mark (barring a few circumstances.) I'd give it a go - at a year and a half, worse case scenario is you're a little more fuzzy at the top and you go back for ties.scissor ninja *kris*https://www.blogger.com/profile/14095878563418544273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7199561964971923704.post-65975960462987838942011-02-10T14:51:50.777-08:002011-02-10T14:51:50.777-08:00Hey, I've had dreads for a year and a half and...Hey, I've had dreads for a year and a half and have always had them threaded when I get them tightened (I live in Kingston). It's knots right from the first day, as opposed to backcombing them and using wax to bind it together until it becomes knots.
